Two Denimheads Recreate Their Favourite Fades at NASDA
EPISODE III
THE RESPONSIBLE LAUNDRY
Soorty collaborates with two well-known and respected influencers of the denim industry, Denimhunters and Long John to spread the word about responsible manufacturing methods and available options in denim production via a very interesting project: recreating their favorite jeans and fades with the most sustainable materials and methods available.
Aiming to design a collaborative project that is informative, transparent and fun at the same time; this documentary series reflect Denimhunters and Long John’s personal experiences and journey as we are recreate their favorite jeans & fades - using only the most responsible raw materials and production methods when doing so.
In the first two episodes we had a detailed tour of Soorty’s Innovation Lab located in Turkey and discussed how it reflects to Soorty’s global presence and picked our fabrics, trimmings and accessories that build the basis of our story. Details made the essentials of the project since the end target is very very specific; tracing the production stage - this time from end to beginning - we had to put all our capabilities in fabric choices and garment finishing to achieve exactly what we see. The fabric bases chosen contribute highly to the end result; the construction, how it reacts to laundry, the wash down capabilities, color and casts all depends on the fabric. Which was followed by trimming choice.
The third covers the laundry stages we had to follow. All the wash including dry and wet processes in laundry were custom designed to achieve the final look of Thomas and Wouter’s jeans exactly like the original pieces worn into. The third episode is also quite explanatory with regards to why we’ve designed this collaboration as we did. All the pre-washing in denim started with consumers’ demand towards owning worn-in looks fresh out from stores rather than patiently waiting their raw jeans into personal, unique patterns. While raw enthusiasts around the world are indeed quite big in numbers, the majority of the demand goes towards the “already washed” looks.
Multiple finishing methods were developed to answer this demand over the years; some with very high impacts on our planet while others are much more environmentally friendly. Technology and a environmentally responsible attitude are true enablers of sustainable production that respects our limited resources as well as societies and people at the backstage. There are multiple options available across the value chain to make not only beautiful but also responsible denim pieces.
The Soorty x Denimhunters x Long John collaboration highlights these options and reflect them to the denim community transparently. We hope you’ve enjoyed!

The first episode was a full tour about NASDA Innovation Lab - Soorty’s R&D hub located in Turkey where our guests visited late 2019, along with their favorite jeans they’d worn for years to create their wear patterns. This second episode covers our journey as we actually make the jeans - choosing the right fabric, creating the pattern, deciding on the right trimming - all the essentials that will help us achieve the target.
Originating from the fact that all the pre-washing in denim started with a demand from customers who want to own worn-in looks fresh out from stores, the collaboration traces the journey of the multiple steps involved in making a pair of responsible jeans - this time from the end to beginning.
With consumers’ request towards readily offered vintage looks, multiple finishing methods were developed over the years; some with very high impacts on our planet while others are much more environmentally friendly. The growing movement of conscious consumerism and the demand for transparent, traceable information; technology became a true enabler of responsible production that respects our limited resources as well as societies and people at the backstage. EPISODE I
TWO DENIM HEADS RECREATE THEIR FAVORITE FADES
Soorty collaborates with two well-known and respected influencers of the denim industry, Denimhunters and Long John, to spread the word about responsible manufacturing methods and available options in denim production via a very interesting project: recreating their favorite jeans and fades with the most sustainable materials and methods available.
The collaborative project was kicked off in September in Munich. Aiming to design a project that will be informative, transparent, fun and honest all at the same time; we’ve decided on a documentary-like video series that will reflect Denimhunters and Long John’s personal experiences and journey as we are recreating their favorite jeans. To make things more exciting; we’ve challenged ourselves - what about using only the most responsible raw materials and environmentally conscious production methods to recreate authentic, personal and one of a kind fades that actually came to existence only via long periods of wearing the jeans, loving and taking care of them?
The two denimheads visited NASDA Innovation Lab - Soorty’s R&D hub located in Çorlu, Turkey - in mid-November and brought along their favorite jeans, which they had worn for years with them. Being enthusiasts of raw denim and seeing how the fabric reacts to one’s behavior as it is worn in; these were the target jeans to be recreated, with the same look and feel via conscious production.
Originating from the fact that all the pre-washing in denim started with a demand from customers who want to own worn-in looks fresh out from stores, the collaboration traces the journey of the multiple steps involved in making a pair of responsible jeans - this time from the end to beginning.
