THE JEANS REDESIGN PROJECT

Soorty is part of Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Jeans Redesign project - a collaborative effort that focuses on design for purpose at the core, and employs  the principles of a circular economy to ensure positive impacts for the environment, society, and the health of those working. We are proud to be among the denim manufactures in the world who has joined this valuable partnership and are hoping more competitive spirit in doing good spreads to wider practices.

Considering design as a practice that determines the actual life cycle of goods, the Jeans Redesign project aims and directs the value chain to trace back the different processes of denim production and use design thinking as a tool to improve things. The guidelines are transparently available online, for anyone interested in going deeper and improving their practices. You can visit them here. The guidelines not only serve as a tool for circular economy but also suggest conscious ways of production via durability, material health, recyclability and traceability.

In other words, the jeans redesigned will be made in line with pre-defined guidelines to produce pieces that will last longer, be easily recycled, and made in a way that is better for the environment and the health of the garment workers. As a participant, we’re ensuring not only the follow up of these guidelines but also embracing Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals guidelines.

By transitioning to a circular system, where we keep safe materials in use and produce goods of endurance, longevity and fairness, we aim that the industry will unlock an enormous economic opportunity.

Over thirty leading brands, manufacturers and fabric mills are working collaboratively within the Jeans Redesign project following the guidelines. The jeans will be available on the market by Autumn 2020.
